Centre College invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Head Men’s Tennis Coach. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position leads all aspects in building a nationally competitive Division III men’s tennis program, including but not limited to: identifying and recruiting successful student-athletes, skill development during practices and games, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, building a positive and cohesive team culture, scouting, and other duties as assigned. Additional secondary duty to serve as the Director of the Seabury Family Tennis Center.

This position requires compliance with all NCAA, SAA, and Centre College rules and regulations and to be mindful of the College’s core values of diversity and inclusion.

Poised for success, enhancements to the Centre Tennis programs over the past three years include: a team-room, the creation of the Seabury Family Indoor Tennis Center, and the complete overhaul of the outdoor tennis complex.

With groundbreaking in July 2021, Centre Athletics is constructing the $65 million Initiative for Wellness and Athletics Excellence (IWAE) project. The transformational facility will feature a new indoor fieldhouse, with a 200-meter track plus indoor turf, a 50-meter natatorium, a new baseball facility, plus a new stadium for football, lacrosse, and track and field. Included in this strategic initiative is over 6,000 square feet of additional strength and conditioning space.

Job Requirements
The Head Men’s Tennis Coach provides leadership in all coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties for a nationally competitive Division III men’s tennis program. Individual reports to the Director of Athletics. Secondary duty is to serve as Director of the Seabury Family Tennis Center, reporting to the Assistant AD for Facilities and Operations in this capacity. Individual also works closes with the Head Women’s Tennis Coach in regard to facility usage, scheduling, travel, and budgeting.



Essential Job Functions:

Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people;
Organize, prepare, and conduct practices, trainings, and competitions;
Successfully recruit student-athletes in accordance with all Centre College, Southern Athletic Association, and NCAA rules and regulations; mindful of the College’s core values of diversity and inclusion;
While leading, monitoring, and coordinating training and practice sessions, ensuring all appropriate safety guidelines are followed;
Responsibility for program budget to include travel, equipment, officials, and recruiting expenses;
Supervision and mentoring of any volunteer or student assistants;
Directing all aspects of the program;
Lead the holistic development of tennis student-athletes;
Represent the program and the College to students, parents, community, alumni, and the general public;
Manage the daily operations and administration facets of the men’s tennis program;
Work in conjunction with Athletic Administration to ensure facility care, preparation, and maintenance are appropriately addressed;
Actively participate in department-wide fundraising initiatives;
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics;
Secondary duty to serve as the Director of the Seabury Family Tennis Center;
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with previous collegiate coaching experience required. CPR, AED, and First-Aid certifications will be required upon hire and must be kept current.

Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated knowledge and coaching skills of the sport of tennis and its playing rules; a commitment to the Division III philosophy; a commitment to diversity and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations; Demonstrate an appreciation of and commitment to further an inclusive culture for those of diverse backgrounds such as ability, age, class, ethnicity, faith, gender, neurodiversity, race, and sexual orientation; knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules; and a demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and mentor student-athletes are essential . Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel. Ability to foster a team environment as well as the ability and desire to work successfully within a team-oriented athletic department is essential.

Physical Requirements:

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling up to 25 pounds. Standing and or walking for more than four hours per day.
