Job Description Reporting to the Head Coach for Women’s Softball, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and administration of an NCAA Division I program that competes in the BIG EAST Conference.

Division/Level NCAA I 
Responsibilities • Recruiting – Assist in all aspects of planning and directing the recruitment of student-athletes of high moral character who demonstrate the desire to excel in academics and athletics. Including, but not limited to, attending primary evaluation sites to identify talent, travel to contests/tournaments to evaluate prospects, and making home visits to talk to top prospects and parents. All while maintaining compliance with NCAA and BIG EAST legislation. Pass the NCAA Certification Exam each year before the academic year begins.
• Team preparation - Assist in the training, teaching and conditioning student-athletes in preparation for contests. Assist in the planning and supervision of practices, preparation of game strategies and coaching the team during contests.
• Student-Athlete Welfare – Incumbent is expected to oversee the concerns of his student-athletes both on and off the field of competition. This includes monitoring the academic performance and furthering the success of the team in meeting academic and eligibility criteria. Incumbent is also responsible for behavior and appearance of the student-athletes and managers under his/her direction while they are representing the University.
• Administrative Responsibilities – Incumbent will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to the production and maintenance of annual reports, PFP evaluations, unit plans, recruiting logs, calendars, rosters and other various reports for NCAA compliance related issues.
• Budget – Incumbent will be responsible for operating within their budget, which will be developed in conjunction with the business office and approved by the Office of Athletics. Incumbent will approve equipment purchases and request advances for team travel from business office and account for all expenditures by providing receipts in a timely manner to the business office.
• Community Service – The incumbent is expected to participate in community relations’ activities both as an individual and with the athletes as a team effort to promote the sport of women’s softball.
• Mission – Understand and support the mission of St. John’s University.
• Generation of Revenue – Incumbent will be expected to take part in annual fund and Capital Campaign fundraising activities to assist women’s softball and University objectives.
• Academic & Student Development – Ensure student-athlete adherence to all academic and student development policies.
 
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree preferred.
• Prior Division I coaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA, BIG EAST rules as well as University policy and contractual obligations.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet and E-mail.
• Excellent organization and time management skills are necessary.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
