The NCAA Softball Rules Committee is requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as the NCAA Softball Secretary-Rules Editor. This position is a four-year term, renewable once. A modest stipend is paid. |

| Responsibilities |
a. Record rules changes adopted by the committee and update the rule book manuscript accordingly; b. Adhere to publishing deadlines in submitting updated or new material for publications; c. Ensure the technical accuracy of the rules in submitting them for publication and in proofreading the corrected version; d. Facilitate production of finished artwork of diagrams or equipment that the committee wishes to include in the published rules; e. Act as the official interpreter of the rules and field questions regarding the rules between meetings of the committee; f. Act as the clearing house for all incident reports from games played under NCAA softball rules, sending timely notice to the institutions and conferences, and summarizing the annual data for the rules committee and the Softball Umpire Improvement Program; g. Copy the NCAA staff liaison to the rules committee on rules interpretations given by electronic mail; h. Report to the rules committee at their annual meeting incident report summaries, any key issues and potentially controversial interpretations given throughout the year; i. Assist the National Coordinator of Umpires with annual rules clinic presentations and a rules video; j. Attend the Women’s College World Series, Division II and Division III Softball Championships as the official rules interpreter of the committee, as requested; k. Attend and present at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Amateur Softball Association conventions and the National Federation of State High School Associations softball rules meeting in order to facilitate discussions on playing rules, as requested; l. Assist in development of the rules survey to be sent to coaches, officials and conference commissioners; m. Collect rule proposals and create the working document for committee deliberation at the bi-annual annual meeting; and n. Perform such other duties as NCAA staff and the committee chair may direct. |
| Qualifications |
1. Bachelor’s degree (essential). 2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential). 3. Ability to relate effectively with umpires and coaches on a national level (essential). 4. Extensive knowledge of NCAA softball rules and their relationship to officiating mechanics and techniques (essential). 5. Strong administrative and organizational skills (essential). 6. Ability to use electronic mail as a means of correspondence (essential). 7. Experience in sports administration, officiating or coaching at the collegiate level (preferred). |
